Buying term insurance at a younger age may help you secure a higher life cover at a lower premium, as premiums are generally based on the age and risk profile at policy inception.

Why is it important to buy a Term Plan in India in 2026?

A term insurance plan provides financial protection for your family by offering life cover that helps them manage household expenses, outstanding loans and long-term financial goals in your absence. As financial responsibilities continue to grow, adequate life insurance has become an important part of financial planning.

According to a report published by Business Standard, life insurance penetration in India remained at around 2.7% during 2024–25, suggesting that many households may still be inadequately insured. This highlights the importance of evaluating your family's protection needs before choosing a life insurance plan.

The suitable term insurance plan depends on factors such as:

  • Age and income
  • Number of financial dependants
  • Existing loans and liabilities
  • Medical history
  • Long-term financial goals

When comparing plans, consider the level of life cover, premium affordability, policy flexibility, claim settlement record and available policy benefits. Bajaj Life eTouch II offers multiple variants with features such as premium waiver for accidental total and permanent disability or terminal illness, flexible death benefit payout options, Auto Cover Continuance Benefit, Early Exit Value¹ (where applicable), and Return of Premium under the Life Shield ROP variant.

What is the Life Shield ROP Variant?

The Life Shield ROP (Return of Premium) variant combines life insurance protection with a maturity benefit. If the life assured survives the policy term and all applicable policy conditions are met, the eligible premiums paid are returned at maturity. This variant may be suitable for individuals who prefer life cover along with the return of premiums paid upon policy maturity.

Which Bajaj Life eTouch II Variant Should You Choose?

Each variant is designed as per the different insurance and financial protection needs of diverse individuals. You can select the variant based on your financial priorities. If you are looking for affordable life cover, Life Shield may be a good fit. What Should You Look for When Buying Bajaj Life eTouch II?

When buying a term insurance plan, consider factors such as adequate life cover, claim settlement record, policy flexibility, premium affordability and available riders. Evaluating these aspects can help you choose a plan that meets your insurance protection needs.

Adequate Life Cover

Claim Settlement Ratio~

Review the insurer's claim settlement record, as it indicates the company's claims-servicing performance.

Solvency Ratio

The solvency ratio indicates an insurer's financial strength and its ability to meet long-term policyholder obligations. A higher solvency ratio^^^ generally reflects a stronger financial position (of the insurer).

Affordable Premium

Select a premium that fits your budget without compromising the level of life cover required.

Plus Symbol

Yes. Under the Life Shield and Life Shield Plus variants, you can choose a policy term that provides life cover up to age 99, subject to the minimum policy term requirements. Under the Life Shield Plus variant, the Accidental Death2 Benefit is available up to age 85. Under the Life Shield ROP variant, the maximum policy term is 50 years.

How does the Accidental Death Benefit (ADB) under Life Shield Plus work?

Plus Symbol

If death occurs due to an accident during the ADB cover period (up to age 85), the nominee receives the ADB Sum Assured in addition to the regular Death Benefit. ADB can be set at 10%–100% of the base sum assured, with a minimum of ₹5 lakh and a maximum of ₹2 crore. For example, if the base sum assured is ₹1 crore and ADB is ₹1 crore, the total family payout on accidental death is ₹2 crore. ADB is always paid as a lump sum regardless of the death benefit payout format chosen for the base benefit.

What is the Terminal Illness Benefit and how is it paid?

Plus Symbol

If the Life Assured is diagnosed with a terminal illness (certified likely to cause death within 6 months) during the policy term: if the sum assured is ₹2 crore or less, the full sum assured is paid and the policy terminates; if the sum assured exceeds ₹2 crores, ₹2 crores is paid immediately, the policy continues for the balance sum assured with all future premiums waived, and the balance is paid on death. The Terminal Illness Benefit is an acceleration of the Death Benefit — not an additional benefit.

What happens if I am permanently disabled due to an accident?

Plus Symbol

Under all three variants, if the Life Assured suffers Accidental Total Permanent Disability (ATPD), all future premiums are waived, and the policy continues in full force. Under Life Shield ROP, the full Maturity Benefit also remains payable at the end of the policy term, even if ATPD triggers a premium waiver — providing both disability protection and maturity assurance in one.

How does the Return of Premium work under Life Shield ROP?

Plus Symbol

If the Life Assured survives the full policy term under Life Shield ROP, the Total Premiums Paid3 are returned as a Maturity Benefit. If no TI claim was made, 100% of premiums are returned. If a partial TI benefit was paid earlier, the maturity benefit is proportionally reduced. The payout can be taken as a lump sum or in 5 yearly instalments, with each instalment equal to the maturity benefit divided by 5 and enhanced by 20%.

How does the Premium Holiday work?

Plus Symbol

You can skip premium payments for 1, 2, or 3 policy years (chosen at inception, cannot be changed) with your full life cover remaining intact. The first holiday is available after 5 completed policy years, provided all prior premiums have been paid. If multiple holidays are chosen, each subsequent holiday must be at least 5 policy years after the previous one. The feature requires both the policy term and PPT to be 20 years or more. Premiums not paid during a holiday are excluded from Total Premiums Paid3 for maturity calculations under Life Shield ROP.

What is the Early Exit Value1 and who can avail it?

Plus Symbol

Under Life Shield and Life Shield Plus, once you complete 25 policy years and are at least 60 years old, you can exit voluntarily and receive all premiums paid back in full. This option cannot be exercised in the last 5 years of the policy and is not available if a Life Stage Upgrade has been taken. No additional premiums are needed — the policy terminates on payment. Early Exit Value1 is not available under Life Shield ROP.

Even after income payments have started, the nominee can convert all remaining future instalments into a lump sum at a 5% discounted present value.

Plus Symbol

This feature lets you defer a premium payment by up to 12 months without any interest or late fee, while maintaining full risk cover. You can use it multiple times during the PPT, with at least a 5-year gap between uses and after at least 3 completed policy years. You must inform the company at least 30 days (15 days for monthly mode) before the premium due date. At the end of the period, the deferred premium plus the next due premium must both be cleared by the end of the grace period.
